Banner repeater signals
A banner repeater signal has a black arm against a white background. A traditional mechanical banner repeater is usually mounted in a circular case with a glass front. Their function is for the driver to know the next signal aspect before they can sight the signal. The Ffestiniog Railway has had three in revival days:[1]
1) On platform 1 at Harbour Station Porthmadog. This indicates to the guard that the starting signals (which can be hard to see round the corner) are clear.
2) At the bottom end of Tan y Bwlch, repeating the up home signal which is obscured by the cutting.
3) At Dduallt for the up home signal but now removed.
There is also a modern LED style banner repeater for the Caernarfon end home signal at Beddgelert on the Welsh Highland Railway
