Hunslet 2207

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

Hunslet 2207 is a 2ft gauge 4wDM of the 'Hudson-Hunslet' type. Although 2207 was purchased directly from Hunslet, making it a Hunslet locomotive, not a Hudson-Hunslet. It was purchased by the Trefor (Yr Eifl) Granite Quarry on the Llyn Peninsula in 1941. . It was delivered by rail to Llanwnda, where it was then transported by road to the wharf at Trefor, where it worked until 1965.

The locomotive supports numerous modifications, the most obvious is the cab, built at Yr Eifl Quarry. Other similar Hunslet Locomotives (2208) also had a similar modification. 2207 has also had it's radiator replaced at some point during it's life, with a radiator off a Hudson-Hunslet. It originally carried a radiator which only had "Hunslet" cast in to the header.

Disposed of for preservation in 1965, it later found its way to the Gloddfa Ganol collection housed at Oakeley Slate Quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog. In July 1979, it was placed on display adjacent to the Ffestiniog Railway station in Blaenau Ffestiniog[1], with GWR slate wagons 44 and 59. Under the care of Gwynedd Council, it remained there until removed to the Ffestiniog Railway around December 2011 for cosmetic restoration.[2]

It was returned to Blaenau on 12 October 2012, having been cleaned up, repainted and varnished[3]. It is now in a slightly different location that places it on an alignment with the former FR mineral line through Duffws station, and is accompanied by two FR slate wagons, 364 and 787.

The locomotive was again repainted in 2022, due to the paintwork starting to peel and steelwork showing signs of rust. This was done on-site by a local painter. It is in a slightly different shade of green.
