Katherine and Jane Richards are believed to have been twins born in 1838 in Llanfair, Merionethshire. In the 1881 census Katherine (or Catherine) is shown as a land owner living with her sister Jane at Llanfairissa, Llanfair Juxta Harlech. They owned the Catherine & Jane Consols lead mine near Cei Mawr on the FR
