Adrian was the FR's Archivist, Secretary of the FR Heritage Group and a moderator of the FR E-Group.
A graduate of the University of Nottingham Faculty of Agricultural Science, as a (much) younger man Adrian was a footplate volunteer at Boston Lodge in the late 1970s and early 1980s, being taught to fire on Mountaineer by Mick Whittle with Ted Evans as driver. Once qualified Adrian worked on Linda & Blanche, firing to Warren Shephard, Russell Burridge, Dave Yates and the legendary Phil Dowse. In those days of blended waste oil fuel there was rarely a dull moment!
Although primarily interested in the FR's heritage Adrian also helped to ensure the supply of volunteers for the future, by acting as one of the organisers of the Young Volunteers Week
He should not be confused with an author of the same name who has written several books on railway subjects, including the South Eastern & Chatham Railway and Railway Murders. However, the FR's Adrian did contribute to the Middleton Press book Branch Lines around Portmadoc 1923 - 46, along with Michael Seymour. Adrian edited The Spooner Album for publication, and helped edit the book on the Festiniog & Blaenau Railway: Trên Bach y Llan.
Adrian has generously given of his time to Ffestiniog Railway Society Area Groups to deliver his seven part illustrated talks about the FR in old photographs. As well as being interesting about the railway they illustrate how much social history can be learnt from old photographs.
