CArl Pihl[edit]

In 1850s Carl Pihl developed cheaper narrow gauge branch railways of 1067mm (3' 6") gauge for use in Norway to begin with.

In the late 1859s the newly separated colony of FRHG Queensland was persuaded by Pihl and other to adopt a cheaper gauge than 1435mm for main line use.
