George Henry Yoxall

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

George Henry Yoxall was born in Penrhyndeudraeth in 1876. His father, William Yoxall was Station Master at Minffordd in 1901.

George was a clerk at Minffordd in 1893-6. The 1901 census records him as a Station Master (probably Penrhyn). In July 1904 he left the FR for a position elsewhere but in October he asked to return and offered a reference written by the vicar.[1] He was allowed to return to Penrhyn and this continued until 1912 when he became Station Master at Tan-y-bwlch. He married Ellen Jones in 1905 and a son William Samuel was born on 22nd February 1907. He had set up a family home at Penybwlch in upper Penrhyn by 1911. He remained as station master at Tan y Bwlch until he died of the flu in 1919 at the age of 42.

Boyd[2] says George was a clerk at Penrhyn station in 1900 at a weekly wage of 17/- but the 1901 census describes him as station master there. He may have exaggerated the status of his position with the census enumerator.
