This locomotive is a 100hp 0-6-0DM built by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds (Builder's number DM1247 of 1961). It was built for underground service with the National Coal Board in County Durham and was first used at Elemone Colliery. At the end of its industrial career, it was obtained from Vane Tempest Colliery for preservation on the South Tynedale Railway in northern England by A.Belshaw.

A subseqent owner moved it to the WHRL on 9 May 1996 and here it received new bodywork and a high profile cab in preparation for use on passenger trains.

After it had been equipped with new engine covers and large cab for surface operations, the owner decided he would prefer to operate his locomotive elsewhere, so it left Porthmadog and returned to Alston on the South Tynedale Railway in March 2007.
