Porthmadog Weathers the Storm
Friday 1st February 2002 saw the morning tide at 11:00 very high indeed. With the addition of gale force winds blowing in from the sea, the Cob took a real lashing from the elements. Below are photographs taken at the high tide, showing the powerful nature of the storm.
-
At its highest point, the sea was lapping at the doors of the Yacht Club and surrounding properties.
-
Waves begin to break over the Cob, whipped up by the wind.
-
The sea was washing over the railway, the road, and blowing into the Traeth.........
-
.......as can be seen in this view.
-
The Cob at the height of the storm.
-
The starter signal wreathed in spume and spray.
-
Near the ground frame at Porthmadog, the wind was almost too strong to stand up, with spray lashing the frame, and blowing over the rails.
