Richard Lewis Phillips

Born 1877 in Penrhyn. Son of William Phillips (1850) a fitter and boiler maker at Boston Lodge. He was the elder brother of Rev. John Timothy Phillips. Joined FR as apprenticed fitter at Boston Lodge for five years from 1st July 1891. He left the FR for a better job with the Marine Department of the LNWR at Holyhead on 7th July 1900.

He was Royal Naval Reserve Engineer Sub-Lieutenant on HMS Tara (formerly LNWR steamer SS Hibernia) when she was sunk in the Mediteranean on 5th November 1915. He and ten other men out of a crew of 104 were lost with the ship. [1]
