It is not clear if GPS was actually married at all although a census return gives his status as widowed
George Percival Spooner's wife[edit]
Hello, am doing some research and wondering if George took a wife in India or if the mother of his daughter, Eleanor (Ellen) Davies, travelled with him there? Your article says nothing further is known of his wife but she didn't return from India, but doesn't clarify whom his wife was. Would be grateful for any information, thank you! 83.98.46.190 (talk) 22:34, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- The story is complicated but Peter Johnson explained it in his article in Festiniog Railway Heritage Group Journal 146 Summer 2021. There are wrong assumptions in some family trees on Ancestry that should not be taken at face value. Chrisjones (talk) 08:26, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response, and yes, complicated indeed. I have already ordered issue 146 so looking forward to reading. Am also interested in a potential son (and namesake) of his in India. There doesn't seem to be much reference to him? 83.98.46.190 (talk) 09:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- That is because, as I said, the information on Ancestry is doubtful and cannot be proved. I wrote to the tree owner and asked how he had made that link and he read my message but did not reply! Hence that link is doubtful until further info can be provided. Chrisjones (talk) 10:01, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Frustrating! Well, from what I can see, there is a 1907 marriage certificate for said namesake George Percival Spooner and his wife Constance (Andrews)...who were my great grandparents (!), and on it (THE apparent) George Percival Spooner is listed as father to George - listed as born in 1883. There has also always been talk in my family (going back many decades) of the Festiniog connection in my bloodline, so would love to talk about this in more detail if of interest. 83.98.46.190 (talk) 10:27, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- email address is cjones@ffwhr.com, I am the FRC Archivist and happy to talk! Chrisjones (talk) 12:42, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, are you still interested in talking?, I would like to see that wedding certificate, and to know where your great grandfather was born?
