Sydney could not have been appointed in 1875 as he would only have been 2 years old. It must have been his father Fredrick who was employed in Nottingham in 1871 but working for the FR by 1881

A small expansion on the above comment.

Within various publications, a number of dates are mentioned in regards to the Crick family, which, whilst reading within the context they are written, sound reasonable. However, if you were to list the dates and the comments mentioned, seperately, it does indeed appear that Jims comment has some validity.

Also at one point (p185) it is stated that ...31/03/1916 - F.G. Crick was asked to retire, ..... some years before, his father S. Crick had retired. Alfred G. Crick made Traffic Supt. again - the wrong members of family stated.??

Correctly by 1916, from census records of 1891 (approximately) F.G. Crick would be 80, A.G. Crick would be 50, S. Crick would be 43.

In stating the above, it does not preclude the fact there may have been other members of the family with the same initials, that worked on the railway.
