License tags for photographs

Hi Stewart

I'm afraid there is no easy way of identifying which photos are yours. Usemod did not log uploads, it just uploaded the file and made it available. I was hoping that the category page for Category:Uploader unsure of copyright status would include a gallery of all the photos, which would make it a little easier, but it seems that Perl's memory management isn't up to handling the processing required to put that many thumbnails on a page so I've had to put the __NOGALLERY__ magic word on the category page. I'm still working on it to see if I can find a fix for that. Sorry I haven't got a better answer for you. I won't be surprised if a lot of the existing photos never get proper license tags - I may create a new tag to be used for those that don't get claimed. Prince (Pictorials)

Stewart Initially that was what I wanted for the PV pages. However someone came up with the thing that they would have to switch pages to see what was being said, so some of the text was transferred. What I now will do (in relation to increased bandwidth) is reduce the main page for Prince to all thumbs and see what comments come back. Give it a few days and then convert rest of the 'groupe of PV pages' similarly Keith 10:37, 3 March 2007

Prince Pictorials

I have seen and approve of the changes to Prince's photos. He is going to the opening of the WHR(P) extension on 23rd March so i will try the new software and attempt to add that to the file.

Hi Stewart

I see you are working on photo credits. This standard is going to take a lot of keeping up to! Can you not leave it just as a credit (where provided) to the photographer? I don't seek credit for my photos, so you won't find any reference for mine.

User page heading

Stewart - I have taken the liberty of making the heading you have been putting on user pages into a template. You will find it at "Template:Leave me a message". The template removes most of the hardcoding in the url and should work on any user page or user talk but not on non-user pages. It won't work correctly on subpages either but that should be easy to fix if required - change the PAGENAMEE to BASEPAGENAMEE. I did think about using #ifeq statements to stop it producing anything if it was used anywhere other than the User or User talk namespaces but decided that was going too far! --Peter_Harrison 10:29, 6 March 2007

Loco availability

Stewart - Can we lose the date off the list completely and just keep it up to date. Otherwise it'll end up like SZBs mods log with a load of out of date rubbish that none will want to read!

Inclined to agree. The loco pages will indicate the history of the modifications, rebuilds, etc. It would also remove the risk of multiple entries conflicting. Just like the HNB SSR. --Stewart 17:46, 17 April 2007

FR Co. Pictures

On the pages I have culled from the old Company website, most of the pics I believe to be from Ian Butters, as an FR employee. However, given the situation in that area, I have never credited as such. This results in "Unknown Photographer". I have just changed 1 to show [[FR Co.]]. Picture of Portmadoc 1875

This is a John Thomas picture - probably taken at the same time as the Duffws pictures of JS, ME, LW, LG & WP - hence more likely to be 1880-82 - but I can't prove it!

Possible side effect from recent update

Thanks for your message Stewart. You are absolutely right about this change. I regarded it as a bug fix, perhaps wrongly. I looked at a page where some images had sort keys, others did not and thought it looked a bit odd. I then looked at MediaWiki code and found that they were not displaying the sort keys for images and changed our code to match. I'm not sure what the right answer is here. I'll take a look at MediaWiki's Bugzilla and see if there are any useful pointers there --Peter_Harrison 15:26, 5 August 2007

Old line photo

I will upload this photo again - did you spot the deliberate mistake? It is back to front. THat slide has no markings and it was only when I looked at the emulsion I realised my mistake. None of those picture uploaded this afternoon are mine, they were taken by Brian Taylor, a LAG member who died about 10 years ago. I was given all his collection with the inference that the copyright came with them.

I don't really understand what you want to do but as you seem to know what you are doing just go ahead. I have a lot more of David Taylor's slides and am not really sure what is there. The ones I uploaded were just some I had used for a talk.

I still have a lot more of my slides to scan and I will see what I can do in the next few days - after that I will probably be too involved with Christmas.

Deletion proposed

It took a little while to sort this out. I can see what has happened with the templates you named and I suspect this is the cause with the other template you mention.

The reason the deletion template appears in Template:Cite book is that it transcludes Template:Template doc. It appears twice on that page because it transcludes both Template:Pp-template (in a noinclude section) and Template:Template doc inline both of which contain the deletion template.

The date is a simple mistake on my part - the deletion template should have used subst when calling #time. I have fixed that so future uses of the template should be correct.

The Pedr page was updated with input from the man himself, hence removal of Trefor Owen and adding Paul and Jenny. Category naming

Just a thought.

You have categorised the Boyd-FR1 cite template as Rail transport book citation templates.
It just seems overly specific.

2 ways of looking at it - a) keep as such to ensure a degree of commonality with world wiki (although I couldnt find anything like it there), or
b) reduce down to just citations as the usage and alternates will be minimal

Use of a shorter, single word, name would be conducive to easier usage
