Welcome to the FR Wiki.

Please dont promote othere talk pages. We have a lot of people that only log in and read material, so creating a talk page is a waste of time. Most of the people that contribute are known by others either by their membership of the FR Society, or more direct relations in Wales

By the way, the links you are putting on these pages dont work - there is no direct link to other wiki systems

Keith - I don't have a problem with people creating user talk pages. Even if a user talk page is never used, it isn't exactly a huge waste of resources. And the links DO work. User talk:193.51.252.2 - Spam[edit]

Since there was no previous content, I have deleted the page. I've blocked the users for one month and blacklisted the links they were using. Adminship[edit]

No.... It means you have to join, pay the subs for a few years, attend meetings (in UK), get nominated, and then elected to an "official" post.
That's about right. There is no particular length of membership qualification nor is attending meetings compulsory (we only have one each year - the AGM), but it is unlikely that anyone would manage to become an officer of the Group unless they were widely known within the membership and/or known personally to the management committee. It may be that we will want to change things and have more administrators as Festipedia grows but for the moment we have just three administrators; the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary of FRHG --Peter Harrison (talk) 15:01, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Formalizing[edit]

You may have seen me formalizing a number of user and user talk pages, basically blanking them off where they haven't been used*, but also correcting them (refs to Festwiki should be Festipedia). This did not include any where there has been chatter (apart from the person setting it up). Deletion of talk pages, even by the owner is considered vandalism on the main wiki, and on here to. Whilst the information can be seen on the history, it is not openly viewable to all users. *Personally I think its wasteful of anyone creating user/talk pages for users that may only visit once, but I have been out voted on this. However, over half of the registered users have only provisional account i.e, no "profiles" It is not that we dont know who they are - many are members of the e-group --Keith (talk) 2008-6-10T14:48:11 (UTC)

Moving Festipedia[edit]

As I have pointed out on Wiki talk:About, you may NOT move Festipedia to MediaWiki and you may NOT unilaterally alter the hosting arrangements for this wiki. This is an FR Heritage Group project. All decisions about the hosting arrangements for this wiki will be made by the Heritage Group Committee and no-one else. You seem to have set up VFD on Wiki-site. You don't need FestWiki to do that. As I have previously pointed out, FestWiki has evolved specifically to meet the needs of Festipedia. It cannot be used to set up another wiki for a number of reasons, not least of which is that there is no way of setting up an initial bureaucrat user - without that, it is impossible to administer the wiki. If you want to arrange hosting and install the software yourself, I would recommend using MediaWiki. If you are happy for adverts to appear on your wiki, Wiki-site does everything you need (and also uses MediaWiki). I may eventually make FestWiki available for general use but there are a lot of other things that are higher priority right now --Peter Harrison (talk) 11:29, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Editing Talk page postings[edit]

Whilst I appreciate the changes to Peter Harrison's post were to correct it (wikia ~ wiki-site), it is not the done thing to go into someones personal talk page posting and amend it. Please, in future, add a comment line by all means, but do not touch the original post. There is a legal point in this comment, but I am not "au fait" with the details.

Theoretcially, even the original poster should not amend his original comment once finished, (on the grounds that someone make take action on the original which is unrequired on the amended version) but this does happen and can be problematic.

Wiki talk:About[edit]

Why would I get angry about that? I stand by my previous comments that FestWiki has evolved specifically for the needs of this site and is not designed for setting up a new wiki from scratch. I would recommend anyone setting up a new wiki should use MediaWiki - it is more powerful and flexible. However, if anyone really wants the source code, it is available from me on request under GPL - that covers wiki.pl and the other Perl files (two of them) which form the complete product --Peter Harrison (talk) 14:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

They already have the requisite copyright notices. Send me an email at webmaster at frheritage.org.uk and I will send you the code.
