The WHR Vintage Weekend required 3 locomotives and 5 carriages to be transported from the FR to the WHR, and back again. The movements commenced on Tuesday 18th September, the first to arrive being 'Prince'.
One of the carriages used for the Vintage Weekend was the original WHR carriage no. 23. It is seen here being eased from the low loader by 'Conwy Castle'. Stock is loaded and unloaded on the 'fuel road' at the WHR, the track being disconnected and a pair of temporary rails attached to the track on the low loader.
'Prince', not having visited the 'new' WHR was taken to Caernarfon & Waunfawr on Friday evening, accompanied by 'Lilla', to check clearances in the platforms.
The three visitors, 'Lilla', 'Prince' & 'Taliesin' found themselves next to each other in the bay platform road at Dinas during shunting on Saturday evening.
Garratt 138 arrives at Dinas, whilst 'Lilla' shunts 'Taliesin' and two of the carriages removed from the Vintage set when 'Taliesin' failed at Dinas with a blocked fuel line & burner on the last up train. Prince continued to Waunfawr with the train. The fuel line was cleared, the burner serviced, and Taliesin was in action again the following day.
'Prince' and 'Taliesin' double headed the vintage set all weekend, but for the last two vintage trains it was decided to reduce the set by one carriage, and let the engines haul the train on their own. 'Taliesin' is seen here at Waunfawr, having made light work of the run.
Prince awaits the down train at Dinas, before commencing his solo run.
