Charles Beresford was born in Kingstown, Dublin, Ireland in 1842 or 1843 and started working for the FR just before the start of passenger services and seems to have left (retired?) about 1917 his last job being assistant weigh office clerk at Minffordd. He was the guard on the train which derailed at Penrhyn on 28th August 1896 and also on the one which derailed at Coed y bleiddiau 4th October 1901.

The 1911 census shows that he was still working as a guard but now living at 4, Tremafon, Minffordd

He lived in Edmund Street (1871) and later Lord Street (1881), Blaenau Ffestiniog and later still at Bodlondeb (1891, 1901), Penrhyn.

He was married to Catherine with four children, Charles & Margaret plus two others.

Beresford's 50th year as a guard was reported overseas in 1914. [1]

Information from census returns and BoT accident reports.
