There is possibility of a misread on this name.
Boyd, in his list of directors refers as Thomas Plunkett Caines[1], whereas Johnson lists as Thomas Plunkett Cairnes.[2]FRcompany archive index verifies this to be the correct version.
Cairnes was born in Ireland c1831 and died there aged 63 in 1894. In 1855 in Dublin, he married Sophia Gaussen. It can be assumed she was related to FR Director Charles Gaussen, who was also based in Dublin.
