James Hewett Oliver of Brondanw, Carnarvon, was on the Provisional Committee in November 1871 and was a Director of the NWNGR at the time of the prospectus of January 1873. He came up for re-election at the half-year meeting on 1 March 1876 and but his re-election was opposed by another Director, Charles Davison and others. His complaint seems to have been that he, Abraham Fitzgibbon and the Chairman, Sir Llewelyn Turner had been left by the other Directors to do all the work, and he would not vote for retaining such people on the Directorate. The Chairman defended him, saying that Major Oliver had constantly attended meetings until he broke his leg, and was prevented. Mr Davison responded that he objected as he was now living in Ireland. On a show of hands Oliver was not re-elected.[1]
