A Yorkshireman who lived in London, he spent 2 years 6 months as a photographer in the Royal Navy and the rest of his time after school working for one of the large "Banks". He became interested in railways during the Second World War and he turned his interest towards preservation schemes when modernisation and standardisation developed on BR. He joined the Ffestiniog Railway Society in 1960 and when offering assistance to Ron Garraway he made the mistake of mentioning his Secretarial qualifications. He succeeded Geoff Sumpster as Society Secretary in late 1961. [1]
