Isaac was the second (after Gelert) of two attractive Bagnall 0-4-2T locomotives built for the Rustenberg Platinum Mines in South Africa that later came to the WHRL. It is builder's number 3023 of 1953.

The two WHRL locomotives arrived in Porthmadog in April 1982. Rustenberg number 3 remained in store, latterly dismantled although some work was carried out on the frames and running gear. If restored, it was to be named Moel Tryfan,

The loco was removed from WHRL on 10 January 2008 to Wakefield in Yorkshire, having reportedly been sold by the consortium of WHR Ltd members who had owned it. ^[1]

On 22 June 2012 it was removed from Ian Howitt's workshop in Wakefield to Boston Lodge Works where restoration was completed. After restoration, the locomotive, named Isaac and in green livery, made a run over the WHR in company with Gelert and FR heritage stock as far as Hafod y Llyn (WHR) on 28 June 2013; it also ran (with Gelert) on the WHRL before being delivered to the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway at Woody Bay in Devon on 29 November 2013.

In February 2021 Isaac moved to its new home at the Statfold Barn Railway near Tamworth^[2].
